What I’ve learned over the last 4 years of being an entrepreneur is that anything we want to create is available and achievable.
For example, visions, dreams and goals that I had in my mind became real. Traveling every 6-8 weeks running a business that was incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. Going to the Maldives on my own for a yoga retreat over New Year’s Eve. Building a 6 figure coaching business. Setting up a wealth investment account and growing it. Creating the most incredible clients and helping them transform and create their own successful PT, acupuncture, consulting, PR, and other businesses.
However, what I’ve also discovered is that before you bring a dream to life? It can very often feel impossible.
Every time I’ve set a big new exciting goal, I’ve felt not good enough to achieve it.
I still have a workbook in my cupboard from 5 years ago where I’d handwritten that I didn’t believe it’d be possible to create clients. I remember the day I wrote it. I was attending a 2-day weekend coaching workshop, and they asked us to write down any beliefs we had about our business goals and dreams. I hadn’t even started my coaching business yet, but I remember thinking, this is never going to happen!
It’s impossible. I don’t know how to get clients. Nobody will want to work with me. I’ve only just received my coaching qualification from The Coaching Academy in London. This just isn’t possible.
That is truly how I felt. The crazy thing is, after taking lots of action, 2 months or so later, I had my very first client. At the time, I was charging £50 or so an hour! But I can tell you, I had never felt more accomplished and proud of myself in my entire life.
There was something about having made money doing what I really loved. It just felt surreal. And amazing all at the same time. I also remember thinking, I hope this doesn’t go away. This is almost too good to be true. Am I really “in business” now? This is insane.
It’s funny because the next day I thought to myself, I’ll never be able to sign up another client. That was just lucky. That must have been a fluke. How could I possibly do this again? It’s impossible.
And sure enough, the next month, I created my second client.
Do you know how many times this has happened? EVERY TIME.
Every time I’ve set a new goal.
I remember the idea of making 10,000 US dollars a month. It was just a dream. Something I thought would be amazing to do. A challenge. But it also felt – you guessed it – impossible. 8 or 9 months into starting my business, I made 10,000 USD cash received that month. And then did it the next month. And the next month.
What I’ve found is that all of our dreams genuinely feel insane, surreal, and impossible when we first set them as goals. I think the reason our dreams feel this way is because they feel almost too good to be true.
Having coached hundreds of women entrepreneurs over the last few years, I’ve seen that this is the case for the vast majority of us. It feels impossible before it comes to life.
Nelson Mandela said “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
And I resonate so much with that quote.
The reason I felt called to share this with you today is to remind you that if your dreams, your goals, your desires feel impossible, that’s completely normal. And it’s also normal if you have all kinds of limiting beliefs right now telling you that you can’t. You’re not good enough. You don’t have what it takes. You’re not smart enough. You’re not as good as those people. You can’t possibly make it. Look at your past results, there’s no way you’ll make it.
It’s normal. Our dreams and goals bring up a lot negative thinking because you’re chasing something you’ve never done before. It also brings up any of the old conditioning you still have from your past.
Regardless of what you’re telling yourself right now, know that absolutely anything is possible. That your dreams are available to you. And that it’s completely normal if it feels impossible for you and that you’re not good enough.
The trick? Is to do it anyway and to act as if you did believe it was possible.
