Working 9-5 and spending your weekends preparing for the following work week can be exhausting. I know from experience. Life is starting to feel boring, bland, and just not what I thought for myself.
It has nothing to do with my career or social life, but simply the heaviness of adulthood. The responsibilities and expectations of who I am supposed to be make life just not as romantic.
So, I’ve decided to try a new strategy. I’ve spent my entire life with my nose stuck in a book, living amazing lives through these characters. I want to bring that same experience into my daily life. The best way to do it is the same way I think of my books, I need to romanticize my life.
I started small, I bought myself flowers. I picked out a cute vase and placed it on the focal point of my home, the dining room table. Now, every week I buy myself flowers and display them. They bring me a sense of joy and make life feel a bit more like a movie.
I’ve added making a beautiful drink to my day. Whether it be a cold brew that I’ve steamed and foamed milk for and added sprinkles, and placed in a designer cup. Or I create an evening fizzy drink in a champagne glass. Whatever your drink of choice, dress up a bit! It makes the experience more fun.
Dress your best! I can’t emphasize this one enough. I work in a very casual office place (t-shirts and shorts), yet, I find myself striding through the door every day in my trousers, nice top, and lots of jewelry. Why? Because it makes me feel good! Something about a good outfit can always brighten your day (or that might be the material girl in me talking).
Every movie has a soundtrack, why don’t you? When I say I have a playlist for everything, I mean I have a playlist for everything! Just a few examples of the music score to my life:
Workout Playlist
On my way to work, Playlist
On my way home, Playlist
On a walk Playlist
Running errands Playlist
And the list goes on. Don’t underestimate the power of music shifting your mood.
These are a few new tasks I’ve added into my life, and I’m happier for it. I’m going to look for more ways to romanticize my life, and I’ll share them with you!
How would you romanticize your life?
