I think sometimes we get so caught up in results that we don’t stay around long enough to witness them. We want so badly for God to move and for us to be a part of that movement, but we don’t pray long enough to witness the blessings that God desires to give us.
Our timing is not God’s timing. He has been alive for an eternity and will be for an eternity to come. A few days or even years is not the same when it comes to His timeline. But we think after a few days, we just deserve an answer, and if we don’t get one then we just assume God said no.
I wonder how many blessings Jesus has desired to give His children, but couldn’t because we decided to limit Him and His power.
Jesus, just like we should, desires to show glory to the Kingdom. I truly believe that is why the Bible says to “ask and we will receive.” If the Lord didn’t want to reveal Himself to His children through His blessings then He would just bless us without us even asking. But when we ask specifically, and He answers specifically it shows Himself to us and to those around us that we choose to share the glory with.
But I think what we get confused about is how long we should be asking. You see the Bible doesn’t put a time limit on that verse, but I think sometimes we humans do. We think that this verse means once we ask, receiving will come soon. But that isn’t what that verse says. It says we will, therefore eventually we will. The Lord is faithful on HIs promises. So who are we to stop asking after a few days?
I have wanted the Lord to heal my anxiety and unhealthy desire for food for a long time now, but have I ever really rigorously prayed over those strongholds?
No. I don’t believe I have. I believe that I have accepted them, and while that has made me “strong” and “capable”, it really hasn’t made me more intimate with my God. It has made me think untrue thoughts such as “I don’t need God to heal it” or “I am strong by myself.”
While I have never blatantly said those things out loud, and I believe I wouldn’t accept them as truth if someone asked me about them {before today}, I do believe I have let these thoughts creep oh so sneakily into my subconscious. And this is a dangerous place for them to be.
So my challenge to you, dear Christians, is to commit to praying over your stronghold daily. Confess to the Lord your unbelief and if all else fails, use this as a chance to strengthen your faith. The answer to your prayer might be that this isn’t a stronghold, but it is a Paul’s thorn {something that makes you long for heaven}.
I know for me, sometimes I would rather not pray over something that seems impossible, because I don’t want to be let down, but who am I to question my God? Who am I to put limits on who He is?
Matthew 19:26 says “with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Do not put limits on Jesus.
Pray without ceasing. Ask and you will receive. Knock and the door will be opened for you. Have faith and believe that our God is mightier than we could ever imagine.
