For years, society has imposed unrealistic beauty standards on women.
As a result, many of us have felt a strong urge to look or act in a certain way, just to fit in with the rest of the world and feel validated by others.
In my own experience, this led to a period of deep depression which consumed my life for many years.
Since I was a teenager, all I wanted was to fit in and be liked by all of the popular girls. I also just wanted to love the way I looked when I stared back at my own reflection in the mirror.
But no matter how thin I became or how much makeup I caked on my face each day, I noticed that I always felt the same way – absolutely miserable!
Negative feelings and cognitive distortions continued to cloud my judgements, which ultimately prevented me from living an authentic life and loving my true self.
Years later, I began to realize how ridiculous my behavior actually was. I mean, why do we all work so hard to fit in when we were born to be unique and stand out from the crowd?
Now, as a wise 33-year-old woman, I finally understand that a woman’s true beauty comes from within.
In fact, the most beautiful women in the world are the ones who don’t feel the need to “pretend” or hide their true personas and appearances from the outside world.
Once you learn to love, accept, and embrace yourself for who you are in this very moment – regardless of your dress size, body type, hairstyle, etc. – you will finally be on your way toward living an authentic life and regaining your power back as the beautiful female that you truly are!
