I have an organization called “The Curl World”. Its purpose is to bring together women of all ethnicities together to empower one another through education on self love, acceptance, hair management and standing against bullying…
I feel that as women, we are set with sometimes very crazy expectations to be perfect and meet the beauty standard and it’s not encouraged enough that beauty is what we see in the mirror.
I have met a lot of women and children getting bullied because our curls are “out of control” “messy” when in reality…our curls are beautiful and unique!
Self love and confidence starts at home and as a child. I want to empower our younger generations to love who they are and use The Curl World as a resource and go to community to feel safe and inspired. Sometimes parents don’t know how to empower that especially if it comes to styling curly hair and not having a clue how to style it. Instead, they take their children to salons and the salons work their magic and it’s great, but when they get home, they are back to square one of not knowing how to manage curly hair. So I’m working with salons to provide curly hair management for fellow curly girls, parents and anyone interested and the reaction has been a surprisingly huge turnout.
I want to talk to schools about how the curl world can be a community to reach out to for love and self empowerment
And I want every woman, Curly girl or not, to feel like they are beautiful and they are enough and invaluable. I know that may sound cliche, but I’m very passionate about this. If I can’t change the world as a whole, then impacting a few can still make a difference.
